Three years ago, Fan Xi came up with an Oasis Hypothesis, aiming at examining whether an artistic practise tightly rooted in the everyday life can expand a micro oasis to the extent of becoming nature, or can only give birth to desolation and death. The artist frequently works upon the dynamic, symbiotic relationship between her own practise and micro ecology in the post-human context; by placing organic and artificial plants in the cool, contemplative museum context, the artist questions the contemporary dilemma in which the natural and the cultural contest - and at times conspire - with each other.
